Luccombe (1990) and Batcombe (pre-1945).

Variable Smudge

Recorded in small numbers most years, usually as a wanderer
to garden light traps.&nbsp; It flies late in
the autumn and overwinters as an adult, reappearing in the spring, and is
perhaps under-recorded as a result, especially in its woodland home.

Pied Smudge

Fairly common as a visitor to garden light traps,
occasionally present in numbers in woodland.&nbsp;
Associated with field maple, and like its foodplant is fairly widespread
in Somerset but absent from certain areas, including the Levels and inland
Exmoor.
