Rosy Footman

This moth is doing well in
Somerset at present, increasing in numbers and expanding its range in the
north-east of the county, where it was formerly absent.&nbsp; It is now only absent from inland
Exmoor.&nbsp; Whilst it is regular at light in
gardens in small numbers, the largest numbers occur in woodland sites,
particularly on the Blackdowns and Quantocks.

The Cinnabar

Numbers seem to be declining, but
it can still be found right across the county.&nbsp;
Usually recorded as adults to light, but also flies by day, and the
distinctive larvae are easy to record, feeding on ragwort.&nbsp; Very variable in numbers from one year to the
next.

Crimson Speckled

A very distinctive moth which is only a rare migrant to Britain. It flies in sunshine and will come to light. Most county records occurred in 1961, one of its big influx years. Since then there has just been a handful of records,
