Stigmella sakhalinella

    Glossy Birch Dot

    NepticulidaeABH 4.006 B&F 113

The larvae of this moth make gallery mines on birch.  Local and scattered in upland west Somerset, though undoubtedly under-recorded there.  Much more frequently recorded in the wetlands around Shapwick, widely distributed in woodland and post-industrial sites around Frome and Radstock, and with populations on amenity plantings of birch in and around Bath.
