Common Fruit-tree Pigmy

A fairly common leaf-miner on hawthorn, more widely distributed across the county than most of the other hawthorn-feeding Stigmellas.&nbsp; It seems to avoid the low-lying areas on the Levels but can be found in hedgerows on the low hills breaking up the landscape.

Northern Rowan Pigmy

A miner on Rowan, which is absent as a naturally-occurring species from large areas of the county.&nbsp; Unsurprisingly, its distribution is restricted to Exmoor and the Quantocks where the foodplant is commonest.&nbsp; It is probably under-recorded here.

Common Rowan Pigmy

The commoner, and much the more widespread, of the two Stigmella species feeding on Rowan.&nbsp; Its strongest populations are on Exmoor with a presence on the Quantocks.&nbsp; There are isolated records from 2000-2001 at Beacon Hill Wood on the Mendips above Shepton Mallet and at Goblin Combe south of Bristol.
