Small Birch Pigmy

The larvae of this moth make gallery mines on birch.&nbsp; Local and scattered in upland west Somerset, though undoubtedly under-recorded there.&nbsp; Much more frequently recorded in the wetlands around Shapwick, widely distributed in woodland and post-industrial sites around Frome and Radstock, and with populations on amenity plantings of birch in and around Bath.

Lime Pigmy

A distinctly local species, mining the leaves of limes, especially Small-leafed Lime Tilia cordata, and its distribution is doubtless restricted by that of its foodplant.&nbsp; It has been found in several of the area's better known woods containing lime - Leigh Woods, Orchard Wood, King's Castle Wood - as well as in quite small woods containing a few limes and, occasionally, on planted trees in suburban areas.

Common Birch Pigmy

Mostly a moth of upland west Somerset, where it is the commonest of the six gallery-making Stigmellas feeding on birch.&nbsp; In contrast, in VC6 it is the least frequently encountered of the six.
