Pale Eggar

A similar pattern of distribution to a number of its blackthorn- and hawthorn-feeding relatives, as well as the Brown Hairstreak butterfly - absent from the western and northern areas of the county, fairly widespread in the south and centre, a distribution likely related to hedgerows and their management.&nbsp; This particular species is showing signs of a decline, and a retreat southwards, within the county.<br>

Yellow Horned

A birch-feeder, under-recorded through flying early in the year, but undeniably local in occurrence.&nbsp; Most frequently reported from the Quantocks and Blackdowns.&nbsp; No 21st century records from Leigh Woods/south of Bristol, the Mendips and Shapwick/Westhay - does this represent a species decline, or lack of recording early in the year in these areas?<br>

Widespread across the county, though under-recorded as a result of its flying extremely late in the year; possibly genuinely scarce on inland Exmoor owing to a shortage of suitable foodplant.<br>
