Local, but can be quite common where it occurs, as a leaf-miner on birch.  Four main areas: Exmoor (where it may be under-recorded), the Quantocks, around Shapwick Heath, and on post-industrial land in the east Mendips extending into the woods on the Wiltshire border.  Not recorded recently from Leigh Woods (last recorded 1963), but possible it can still be found there.  Occasional records of adults elsewhere, presumably dispersing individuals.
