Devon Carpet

A moth of damp woodland where its foodplant Marsh Bedstraw can be found.&nbsp; As the English name suggests, a south-western species, but one that has undergone a massive expansion in range nationally recently.&nbsp; In Somerset it was historically confined to the west, extending as far as Shapwick, but has spread further north and east since the turn of the century.&nbsp; It is still, however, very localised, becoming more so the further the moth goes from the Devon border.<br>

Striped Twin-spot Carpet

Its rocky moorland and hillside habitat means that this species is very local in Somerset, restricted to Exmoor and the Quantocks. Recorded in very small numbers and not annually. May be disturbed during the day. Larval foodplant is Bedstraws.&nbsp; It is more common and widespread in Wales, northern England and Scotland.

Common and widespread across most of the county, though very firmly avoiding the floodplain areas of the Levels.<br>
