Yellow-tail

Common across much of the county,
and occasionally abundant, especially around Shapwick and Westhay, but absent
from inland Exmoor and an area around Shepton Mallet.&nbsp; However, absolute numbers reported seem to be in gradual
decline.

Gypsy Moth

A former resident in East Anglian fens, this species became extinct before 1900 but has since become re-established as a resident, immigrant and adventive.&nbsp; On mainland Europe, where it is often a pest, it is found in a variety of habitats, where the larvae feed on broadleaved trees and bushes. There has been just one confirmed record in the county, in 1992.

Thinly scattered across the
county but more common coastally.&nbsp;
Appears to have colonised the county relatively recently, with very few
records before the mid-1980s and being almost annual since, increasing in
frequency in recent years.&nbsp; The hairs on
the larvae can sometimes cause severe allergic reactions.
