Marbled Pug

A nationally scarce species associated with Oaks, especially large, mature, Oaks, in woodland and hedgerows. It can sometimes be found during the day resting on Oak trunks and branches. The main English population can be found in the New Forest. It has been recorded irregularly in Somerset in small numbers and at scattered locations.&nbsp; As expected given its foodplant, its most recent records are in and around woodland on Exmoor and the Blackdowns.

Narrow-winged Pug

Associated with heather, so in Somerset largely a moorland species, with most records coming from the Quantocks and Exmoor (where it is probably considerably under-recorded).&nbsp; May still occur at Black Down on the Mendips, which offers suitable habitat, and probably still occurs in the woods on the Wiltshire border around Stourhead.&nbsp; Has disappeared from the peat moors on the Levels, doubtless through habitat loss.&nbsp; Occasional dispersing individuals can turn up anywhere in the county, though are most frequent coastally.

Widely distributed, though scarce and local; recorded often and in better numbers from the Berrow/Burnham-on-Sea area.&nbsp; Double-brooded, with the summer generation being more frequent than the spring one.
