Epinotia immundana

    Birch Tortrix

    TortricidaeABH 49.24 B&F 1136

Common and relatively widespread, albeit constrained somewhat by the distribution of its main foodplant, birch (alder is also used).  It is probably under-recorded in the upland west of the county.  That said, it is probably the most frequently recorded of the various Epinotia species that feed on birch.  The vast majority of the records are of adults to light, but this species can readily be found as a larva, the spring/early summer generation of adults feeding in catkins in winter/early spring, and the late summer generation in leaf-rolls in early summer.

    Adult Verification Grade: 2
