Black-brindled Bell

Scarce and local, but with
multiple records from some sites.&nbsp;
Associated with blackthorn <i>Prunus spinosa</i>, a common and
widespread shrub, and potentially more widely distributed than the map
suggests.&nbsp; Most records are from the
Blackdowns.

Variable Bell

A variable species.&nbsp; Uncommon in the county, sometimes coming to
light, and can be recorded by rearing from its distinctive larval
spinnings.&nbsp; Most records are from the
Blackdowns and the complex of woodlands on acidic soil and post-industrial
sites between Shepton Mallet and Frome in the east of the county.&nbsp; Unusually for a birch-feeder, there are no
records for the Quantocks and only from a single site on Exmoor.

Brown Elm Bell

Fairly widespread across much of
the county; shown to be fairly common, at least in the north-east of the
county, by targeted searches for the distinctive feeding signs on elms or by
rearing.&nbsp; It is occasional at light.
