Requires dissection to be certain of identification, either from adults trapped at light or from reared larvae, with both being fairly frequent occurrences. In Somerset, the foodplant has always been hawthorn when it has been noted, though elsewhere in the country apple, blackthorn and perhaps other rosaceous shrubs may be used.
