New Sloe Case-bearer

The least common of a group of species requiring dissection of an adult for certain identification.&nbsp; Feeds on blackthorn, and comes to light.&nbsp; Five records to date, three from the Porlock area (1993-1997), also from Taunton (2006) and Frome (2017).<br>

Common Case-bearer

Probably the commonest of our coleophorids, recorded from almost all parts of the county, occasionally at light but most often as a larval case.&nbsp; The foodplant is usually birch, but it has also been recorded in the county from hazel, elm, alder and once on hawthorn.<br>

Apple & Plum Case-bearer

Common and widespread.&nbsp; Requires dissection to be certain of identification, either from adults trapped at light or from reared larvae, with both being fairly frequent occurrences.&nbsp; In Somerset, the foodplant has always been hawthorn when it has been noted, though elsewhere in the country apple, blackthorn and perhaps other rosaceous shrubs may be used.<br>
