Larch Case-bearer

A fairly common coleophorid, occasionally recorded at light but more often as a larval case on larches.&nbsp; Most larches in Somerset are from plantations on Exmoor, from where we have very few records of the moth - probably because it has never been looked for - but the moth is certainly not restricted to plantations, as it has been found in urban and suburban areas of Bath and Weston-super-Mare.<br>

Gorse Case-bearer

Like many coleophorids, recorded both as an adult at light (when it requires dissection) and as a larval case, for this species on gorse.&nbsp; Unsurprisingly, most records are from western, acidic upland areas - and it might well be much more common on Exmoor than records show - but it also occurs on the gorse that invades calcareous downland on the Mendips.&nbsp; No records east of a line between Cheddar and Crewkerne, where the foodplant is scarce or altogether absent.<br>

Recorded three times at light at Berrow in 1989, and unrecorded in the county since.<br>
