White-marked

A scarce moth with a scattering of records from acidic upland areas, with woods in the Blackdowns perhaps being the most likely place to find it.&nbsp; Its early flight time means that it is likely to be under-recorded.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Small Square-spot

Very common and widespread throughout the county, and often one of the commonest species at light.&nbsp; Double-brooded here, flying in June and again in August/September.

Red Chestnut

A widespread and common moth wherever large areas of semi-natural, acidic grassland remain - chiefly upland south and west Somerset and central Mendip, also locally in the Gordano valley, the east Somerset oak woods, around Shapwick Heath and Great Breach Wood in the Poldens.&nbsp; Possibly under-recorded, since it flies early in the year.
