Red Underwing
Catocala nupta
ErebidaeABH 72.078 B&F 2452Widespread, though scarcer in inland Exmoor and parts of east Somerset. Although most records are of adults to light, it is weakly attracted to it, and is relatively often observed resting by day. Unsurprisingly for a species whose larvae feed on willows and poplars, it is commonest, and most likely to be observed in any numbers, on the Levels.
