Lilac Beauty

Widespread if infrequent throughout the county, though noticeably rarer north of the Poldens and west of Minehead.&nbsp; Associated with ash amongst other species, so ash dieback may be a threat to the future of this species.

Speckled Yellow

A scarce and local species of woodland and scrub, in decline.&nbsp; Seemingly most common in the Brendons and North Hill/Bossington, and occurring irregularly elsewhere in Exmoor.&nbsp; In the Mendips, recorded recently from around Crook Peak and Draycott Sleights, though seems to have disappeared from Ubley Warren and around Cheddar Gorge where it used to be frequently reported.&nbsp; It may have disappeared from the Blackdowns with only one record in the last 15 years, and seems to be long gone from the rest of the county.

Orange Moth

A woodland moth, occasionally wandering to light in gardens.&nbsp; Confined to central southern Somerset.&nbsp; Strong populations at Great Breach Wood and Thurlbear, and turns up irregularly elsewhere in the area.&nbsp; Formerly frequently recorded at Shapwick and Street Heath, but not seen there since 2013.&nbsp; Away from this district, used to be recorded frequently from Cogley Wood near Bruton - and may still occur here - but elsewhere is only an occasional wanderer.
