Early Grey

Widespread and often recorded in
decent numbers, although not to be found everywhere; it is likely to be missing
from sites where its foodplant (honeysuckle) is absent or cannot be found
nearby.

The Sprawler

A moth that flies very late in
the autumn, and is under-recorded as a result, only low numbers being reported
most years.&nbsp; Although its foodplants are
said to be various deciduous trees, it has a pattern of distribution in
Somerset very reminiscent of some species whose larvae feed on thorn bushes,
such as Small Eggar and the Brown Hairstreak butterfly – lowland southern
Somerset from the Poldens southwards, with an outpost around Frome.

Green-brindled Crescent

Found across the county, and
frequently recorded, especially for a moth that flies so late in the year.&nbsp; It can be quite numerous at certain favoured
gardens and it would be interesting to see what the results of trapping scrubby
woodland sites during its flight period might be.
